Silicone baking pans are flexible - and not only in their texture
Many people only know classic baking pans made of steel or aluminium. In recent years, however, silicone cake pans have joined the kitchen cupboard again and again – for a reason!
The flexible baking pans are not only variable in their shape, they are also available in many different designs. Additionally, they have many advantages.
On the one hand, the silicone baking pan is very flexible. Thanks to their flexibility, you can store all your pans in the kitchen cupboard to save space and still have enough room for other great baking utensils from RBV Birkmann. Sometimes, however, the pliability can seem irritating: a silicone mould filled with dough tends to be a bit wobbly. Anyhow, there is a simple trick: fill your silicone cake pan while directly staying on the baking tray or rack. This way you can easily put the cake directly into the oven without any wobbly issues.
The silicone material has other advantages too. You can not only use the mould in the oven, but also in the freezer. That's right, the material has a resistance of -40°C to 230°C and thus offers many different uses. Furthermore, cakes are very easy to release from a silicone pan. The flexibility allows the mould to be literally "pulled off" to reveal the outer shape of the pastry. You can touch the silicone baking mould directly with your fingers, because the material does not retain heat as long as a conventional baking pan made of steel. However, you should never try to cut into a silicone mould or loosen the cake with a knife. Even minor irritation with sharp-edged objects can cause holes, which then widen into a crack the next time the pan is filled.
If you don't have an oven available, you can still bake cakes with ease: the silicone baking pan also achieves great baking results in the microwave. Conventional baking pans made of any metallic material must not be placed in the microwave under any circumstances, but this is no problem for silicone.
After baking, the silicone baking dish is very easy to clean. You can either fill it with warm water and dish soap and then wipe it out or, and this is even easier, put the silicone pan in the dishwasher. This way you can bake your next cake in no time!
