Do you also love the delicious aroma of freshly baked food – especially when it comes from your own oven?

You’re a passionate home baker and love making your own bread, pizza and tarte flambée, letting your imagination run free. With the baking stone from our Laib und Seele range, you can take your baking skills to the next level and turn your oven into a traditional bread and pizza oven in no time – for truly professional results.

The stone is made from high-quality, food-safe cordierite. It stores heat exceptionally well and releases it continuously and evenly into your bake. At the same time, it draws moisture out of the dough, creating a wonderfully thin, crisp crust. You can bake directly on the stone or, for particularly rich bases, use baking parchment. This makes cleaning easier and helps protect the stone.

Once the stone has cooled completely after use, any coarse residue can be removed easily with a dough scraper or a brush. Thanks to its rectangular shape, it makes excellent use of the oven cavity and offers plenty of space for all sorts of baking ideas – and it fits in almost all standard domestic ovens.

It’s also ideal for true grilling enthusiasts, as the material can withstand temperatures of up to 800 °C with ease. Suitable for gas and charcoal barbecues, smokers or even a campfire.

Please do not clean the cordierite stone with water or washing-up liquid. Don’t worry: thanks to its high temperature resistance, the stone will be hygienically clean in any case. With prolonged use, some marks may become baked in. We call this a “patina” – and it’s exactly what you want. It’s a reminder of the look of a real stone oven, or of the last shared pizza night.

Before first use Before using the bread baking stone for the first time, clean it thoroughly with a dry cloth or a slightly damp cloth. Do not use washing-up liquid and never immerse the stone in water, as the open-pored material absorbs liquid. Before using for the first time, heat the stone in the oven at 100–150°C for about 30 minutes to burn off any production residues. Product features and recommendations The baking stone is made of food-safe fireclay – a particularly heat-resistant, open-pored natural material that absorbs moisture and ensures crispy crusts. Perfect for bread, rolls, pizza or tarte flambée – with authentic stone oven results from your domestic oven or barbecue. Stores heat for a long time and distributes it evenly to the food – for particularly even cooking. The fireclay brick can be used in electric and gas ovens as well as on closed barbecues. Cleaning The bread baking stone must not be cleaned with water or washing-up liquid. Once the stone has cooled down completely, clean it with a dry brush, a wooden scraper or a dry cloth. The bread baking stone is not dishwasher-safe and must not be soaked. Over time, stains from oils or flour will appear. These do not affect the taste or function and are a sign of the natural ageing of the material. Safety instructions The stone must be preheated in the oven for at least 30–45 minutes before placing the baked goods on it. This is the only way to generate the heat required for crispy results. The firebrick must not be exposed to sudden temperature fluctuations (e.g. cold dough on a red-hot stone or a cold stone in a hot oven), as this may cause it to crack. The stone should not be greased. Baking paper or flour/semolina are recommended as release agents. The bread baking stone is food-safe and does not release any substances into the baked goods. Only suitable for indirect contact with food. Special care must be taken at high temperatures and when using the stone in a barbecue. Use heat-resistant tools and protective gloves. The bread baking stone becomes very hot. Children should only touch or use it under adult supervision and never without supervision. Store in a dry place, lying flat and protected from impact. Sharp impacts or falls can damage or break the stone. Check the stone regularly for cracks or chips. If there is visible damage, it should no longer be used.
